In 1936 a group of independent coach companies banded together as Trailways National Bus System. Dressed in a distinctive "crimson and cream" paint scheme, Trailways motorcoaches traveled scheduled routes throughout North America and Europe. While rival Greyhound became a single company, Trailways remained a system of separate companies, some owned by major railroads.
